If you’re reading this, we probably don’t need to tell you how good Serial and its parent podcast, This American Life, are.
Now news comes that the two have joined forces to launch S-Town, a real-life tale of murder and intrigue – and all episodes will drop next month in binge-encouraging style.
Hosted by This American Life’s Brian Reed, the new show zooms in on a rural Alabama town after a resident initially contacted This American Life to say a wealthy family needed investigating as someone was bragging they’d got away with murder.
According to vulture.com, a press release states that Reed “agreed to look into it. But then someone else ended up dead, and another story began to unfold – about a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure and the mysteries of one man’s life.”
It’s released under Serial Productions, a collaboration between award-winning Serial creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder and This American Life, with Ira Glass and Starlee Kine on the team.
The first Serial, in 2014, focused on the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and the attention it generated contributed to the granting of a retrial for the man convicted of her murder, Adnan Syed. The second delved into the case of a US soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, accused of desertion.
