It's polling day, and the French have made a particularly sweet last minute attempt to persuade UK voters to stay in the EU.
Yesterday morning, a group of friends who call themselves Operation Croissant travelled from Paris to London by Eurostar with plans to hand out freshly baked croissants at King’s Cross St Pancras station. The pastries were accompanied by postcards with messages of love from the French to the British – personal stories of romances and families that have crossed the Channel, and lists upon lists of the things that our French counterparts love most about Great Britain.
Unfortunately, the group's plans to hand out croissants were thwarted by police on the grounds of an ancient law which states that political campaigners must not use food as part of their campaign, but they were able to hand out the postcards on their own.
On their website, the group said: "The point is to show how close we are. It’s not a grand political gesture; it’s not designed to spark debate or court controversy. Quite the opposite. It’s simply an act of breaking bread."

The group also produced a beautiful video following the day's events. Watch it below.
