Teen girl learns of her rape when pictures are posted online

Published

Support has been pouring in for a 16-year-old from Houston who found out she was raped while unconscious at a house party when pictures of her lying on the floor went viral.

The teenager, named Jada, who chose to speak out in an interview on Houston news channel KHOU, claims that the teenage boy hosting the house party offered her a drink of punch which she believes was spiked with a drug. She passed out and was unaware of what happened next until indecent pictures of her started to appear on social media.

"Everybody knows," said Jada. “And everybody’s texting me are you OK? You’re going to be OK, and I was like alright."

In addition to images of Jada’s unconscious body circulating the internet, other teens started mocking her by sharing images and vines of themselves splayed out on the floor in the same pose under the hashtag #jadapose.

Some of these images on Twitter have been retweeted over 150 times.

One creator told houstonpress.com he decided to post the vine early Tuesday morning, when he "was bored at 1a.m. and decided to wake up my (Twitter timeline)." He said he didn't know Jada personally.

"There's no point in hiding," said Jada, speaking about her decision to reveal her identity in the interview. "Everybody has already seen my face and my body, but that's not what I am and who I am.

"I had no control," added Jada. "I didn’t tell anyone to take my clothes off and do what they did to me."

Jada's mother, who has asked not to be identified, said, "No one’s daughter deserved this. No human being deserved this."

Jada told KHOU she wants the people who did it to be caught and that "I’m just angry".

Others have been speaking out against the #jadapose hashtag on Twitter, calling it "sad" and "disgusting". See a selection of the tweets below.

Police are investigating the incident.
