Paris is the most affordable city for young people to live according to a new study.

The Youthful Cities Affordability Index, compiled by a Toronto-based strategic consultancy Decode which has worked in youth development research for 20 years, calculates the cost of living - from rent to the price of a burger - in relation to an hour of minimum wage in 25 of the world's largest cities.

With the highest minimum wage at £7.98 (€9.53) and ranking in the top five for most of the measures, including lowest cost of subway transport fare, music gigs, cinema tickets and eggs, Paris was found to be the all-round most affordable city to live in, followed by Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago and Berlin.

London didn't fare too high, coming in at overall 10th place with the 6th highest minimum wage (£6.50), 19th place for public transport with Beunos Aires, Rome and Los Angeles offering the cheapest travel, and 9th place for the cost of a burger and cinema tickets.

New York ranks overall 10th with a minimum wage of £4.54 ($7.25) when the index was compiled, however its recent increase to $8 would bump the city up to be in joint-eighth position with Los Angeles.

Berlin is the cheapest place on the 25-city index to buy burgers and concert tickets, Rome is the most affordable city to go to the cinema and Istanbul offers the lowest cost flights out of the country.
