Stop everthing. Fleabag’s Hot Priest (Andrew Scott) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge just payed homage to that gin in a tin scene.
Any Fleabag fan will understand the significance of the gin in a tin. It’s what the Hot Priest (Andrew Scott) offers Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) when they share a drink and have a chat.
“Do you want a proper drink?” Hot Priest asks Fleabag.“I’ve got cans of G&T. From M&S.”
The scene was so iconic that it sparked a 24% rise in M&S gin and tonic sales. From that point onwards, we enjoyed watching their relationship develop – even if we were a little bit heartbroken (read: devastated) by its ending.
Today (7 September), both stars made all our viral internet video dreams come true by celebrating the scene.
Waller-Bridge and Scott handed out tins of gin (Marks & Spencer, of course) to fans outside the London theatre that Waller-Bridge is currently performing Fleabag in.
We know: it sounds too good to be true, but it really happened.
They also chatted to fans queuing, with Scott saying: “How are you? Have some gin, I hope you get a ticket.”
She also shouted that he’s “got slimline”.
Waller-Bridge thanked fans for coming and waiting so long.
The internet has responsded to the moment with much excitement…
The deliciously satisfying moment happened days after Scott paid a beautiful tribute to Waller-Bridge while picking up the Hugo Boss Standout Performance Award at the 2019 GQ Men of the Year Awards.
Insisting that Waller-Bridge is “the reason I’m standing here”, Scott said: “I think like all great artists, she’s incredible. She wrote this male character with a huge amount of protectiveness and complexity and sensitivity.
“When we first talked about doing Fleabag together we wanted to talk about the extraordinary way love manifests itself in the world,” Scott continued, “and I’m just so thrilled that the world has been able to see Phoebe’s qualities.
“That’s what has touched the world, those qualities of generosity. She’s an incredibly generous person. She’s actually just done a play tonight in the West End so for her to come here and present this to me is amazing.”
We just love that they’re clearly great friends off-screen, who genuinely enjoy a gin in a tin.
