A heavily pregnant woman has bestowed a tongue-in-cheek reward to a man who offered his seat on the subway: a seven inch, handmade trophy emblazoned with the words “#1 Decent Dude”.

Yvonne Lin had been carrying the trophy in her backpack for the majority of her second pregnancy in the hope of thanking the first man to give her his seat, but it took a grand total of eight months before she was actually able to hand it over.

Even worse, Lin devised the experiment because not a single man offered her a seat during the entirety of her first pregnancy, despite her carrying a “silly little card” to give to the first one who did.

Taking to Instagram (below) to share the moment when she was finally offered a seat, she wrote, “I'm about 8ish months preggers (again) and I look it. I've been gradually coming to the conclusion that men suck.

“I didn't get a single subway seat offered to me by a man throughout my first pregnancy. So for the second pregnancy, I had this made and I've been carrying it around everyday - till last Friday. This guy is the winner!”

The gold trophy is brilliantly engraved with the words, “#1 Decent Dude – First man to offer subway seat to pregnant woman throughout two pregnancies”, and is photographed alongside its grinning recipient.

Lin told DNA Info that the man noticed her when she was standing in front of him on the subway, and “looked up at me and looked super startled and embarrassed, and he immediately stood up and said, ‘Please take this seat, I just noticed.’”

She added that she chatted to the man and found out that he was a father of two, although she didn’t give his name.

And now, Lin hopes the experiment will help change how men react to pregnant women on public transport.

“If men just gave up their seats the same amount of time or similar [as women], then it would be no problem,” she said.

Here at Stylist.co.uk, we’ve heard a number of stories about how our readers are treated on public transport when they’re pregnant – with the main issue being, unsurprisingly, that fellow commuters are often unwilling to offer up their seats.
