If you're one of those people who always feel short-changed after the last bite of cupcake vanishes: good news.

The world's largest cupcake was unveiled in Scotland today (31 May) guaranteeing mouthfuls of goodness for hundreds of people and taking hours rather than minutes to consume.

The monster creation - complete with pink buttercream icing - weighs in at a massive 1,176.6 kg and took 42 hours to make, making it a world record holder.

Unfortunately, only those who happened to be in Princes Square , Glasgow, around the time the giant delicacy was uncovered today managed to get a taste of it.

But with cupcake fever showing no signs of abating, it's only a matter of time before someone tries to outdo the record with an even bigger treat.

Liggy Morgan, owner of Liggy’s Cakes who made the cupcake, said her team had worked through the night to perfect it. "We're delighted by the number of people who have popped down to enjoy a slice," she said.
