Chocolate fans outraged by Toblerone’s “horrifying” new look

They’ve been a staple of our diets for years, and always stand in as the perfect Christmas present for people we’re never sure what to buy for.

But now the humble Toblerone has been irreversibly changed, and chocolate fans aren’t happy.

The new Toblerone shape was revealed on the chocolate’s official Facebook page last month, with the usual chunky triangles shown to be replaced by much thinner versions.

The announcement, which has been shared 60 times, has garnered 279 comments, with Toblerone enthusiasts taking to the page to lament the new slimline chocolate.

“It looks wrong, it's not aesthetically pleasing and it no longer looks like a premium product,” wrote Facebook user Alex Barrett.



“This is the final straw. I'll now refuse to buy any of your products,” added user Greg William Flucker.

Mondelez International, the company that owns Toblerone, defended the new shape by stating that Toblerone “remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market”.



The company also added that the change was made due to “higher costs” for ingredients. Despite the size of the packaging remaining the same, the chocolates have reduced in size, with a 400g bar now weighing in at 360g and a 170g bar weighing 150g.
