Today, we’d like you to spare a thought for the poor souls on the voting panel of the Spirited Awards. Every year, these brave soldiers take on the difficult mission of identifying the best bars on the planet, leaving no G&T un-sipped in the process. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.

The results of this year’s awards are now in, and they contain glad tidings for fancy drinks fans in the UK. The best cocktail bar in the world is officially in London – and you can book a visit there today.

Dandelyan, founded by cocktail king Ryan Chetiyawardana, came out on top at the 2017 Spirited Awards ceremony, taking home the World’s Best Cocktail Bar gong. The luxe bar at the Mondrian Hotel on London’s South Bank also picked up two more major honours, for Best International Hotel Bar and Best International Bar Team.

Dandelyan was already well-known as a gorgeous spot for a drink, thanks in part to its dreamy Tom Dixon-designed interior. Guests sip cocktails while seated on plush pink banquettes, gold lamps glitter on emerald green walls and the windows boast front-row views across the Thames.

But as you might expect, it’s the cocktail list that really sets Dandelyan apart. The botany-themed drinks menu is divided into four sections – Faith, Lust, Currency and Rock ‘n’ Roll – and features ingredients including nettles, tomato wine, saffron, salt-baked pomegranate and blue corn.

The bar has been scooping up accolades left, right and centre ever since it opened in late 2014. It was named Best New International Cocktail Bar at the 2015 Spirited Awards, with Chetiyawardana voted the world’s best bartender at that ceremony.

Dandelyan also came third in the World’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2016.

However, Dandelyan wasn’t the only London bar recognised at this year’s Spirited Awards. Other swish boozers on the honours list included Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill (voted Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar) and Swift in Soho (Best New International Cocktail Bar).
