“I never drink anything stronger than gin before breakfast.”

So said WC Fields – but, while everyone tittered away at his wit, there were probably more than a few G&T fans out there who were a tad sad that he was joking.

After all, gin isn’t just delicious: it’s also packed with amazing health benefits. Yet, despite this, it has yet to be deemed acceptable breakfast table fodder – unlike the likes of champagne and vodka, which have managed to disguise themselves and sneak on to our brunch menus as Mimosas and Bloody Marys.

Now that’s all about to change.

The folks at Greek-style yoghurt purveyors Rachel’s have had a stroke of gin-based inspiration. Or ginspiration, if we may. Yup, you guessed it: they’ve only gone and plonked some mother’s ruin in their zingy lemon yoghurt.

Check it out:

That’s right: all it takes is a quick trip to the supermarket and you’ll soon be able to enjoy all of those heady gin botanicals alongside your morning bowl of muesli or granola. For £2 per 450g tub, it’s somewhat cheaper than covering your cereal in actual gin – and not one person will bat an eyelid, either.

After all, yoghurt is totally an acceptable breakfast food.

Don’t be fooled: the yoghurt isn’t just flavoured to taste like G&T: it genuinely does contain real booze – 0.5%, to be exact. However this amount in a beer is classed as alcohol-free, so you should be OK.

Maybe stick to luxurious weekend breakfast-in-bed scenarios just to be on the safe side.
