Some drinks just transport you elsewhere: the bowl-sized G&T studded with peppercorns taking you to Spain; the Aperol Spritz landing you outside a bar in summer no matter where you are; the accidental sniff of Archers dropping 17-year-old you on a pavement outside the worst club in town (hey, we didn’t say they’d all take you somewhere good).
How about limoncello? Ice-cold, sweet and sharp at the same time, a citrus digestif capable of making the worst tiny-bit-of-chalked-off-street-outside-a-pub feel like sun-drenched Italy, perhaps?
Well, lucky Londoners, this month limoncello is coming to you, courtesy of a beautiful little yellow van trundling the streets of the capital stuffed full of cocktails.
Pococello, a limoncello made by the people behind Pizza Pilgrims and the team at Chase Distillery, will be available from a converted Piaggio Ape van dubbed Ludo – in both the post-prandial straight shots and creative cocktail mixes, such as a lemony twist on the Negroni and Poco-Tonics, priced at £9.
The seven spots being treated to the tour are listed below, and Ludo’s movements can also be followed via Twitter.
- 8 June: The Duke of Sussex, 23 Baylis Rd, Lambeth, London SE1 7AY
- 18 June: The Lillie Langtry, 19 Lillie Rd, Fulham, London SW6 1UE
- 19 June: The Colton Arms, 187 Greyhound Rd, West Kensington, London W14 9SD
- 29 June – 1 July: The Albion sites across London
(2-4 Boundary Street, Shoreditch, London E2 7DD
NEO Bankside, Pavillion B, Holland Street, London SE1 9FU
Unit 1, The Turnmill, 63 Clerkenwell Road, London EC1M 5NP)
The van was actually stolen in May, but thankfully the owners tracked it down in time to offer thirsty Londoners a lemony hit throughout June.
