Red, red wine, you make us feel so fine – but, if it’s possible, you make us feel even finer when you’re muddled in with our favourite desserts.
From boozy red wine brownies to hot chocolates spiked with our favourite ruby-coloured booze, we’ve sampled countless vino inspired recipes over the years. But now, in a stroke of genius, two renegade food bloggers have brought us a magical new concoction.
Say hello to red wine ice cream.
Jessica Pinney and Janette Staub are well aware that red wine is a classic winter treat, but that didn’t stop them giving it a seriously cool (literally) makeover for summer.
“Jesus may have turned water into wine, but we’ve turned wine into ice cream,” the pair boasted on their blog, Cooking With Janica.
And, to be honest, this is one of those occasions where it’s well and truly acceptable to boast. Just check out this photo…
Made with a whole bottle of Merlot (glug!) and a single vanilla bean, the frozen treat is “creamy and sweet at first, but then you get the tang from the wine”.
Better still, it takes just six ingredients to whip up a batch of this deliciousness for yourself – although you will, of course, require an ice cream maker.
As if this recipe isn’t exciting enough, the Janica ladies have also designed a special red wine syrup to drizzle all over the top.
They recommend adding a handful of blackberries, whipped cream, and almonds for a truly decadent experience.
