Vissani’s comments comes just weeks after the Italian Parliament drafted a bill questioning the safety of raising children on vegan diets, and proposing jail sentences for parents bringing their children up as vegan.

According to Italian publication The Journal, the bill was drafted as a result of several vegan children being admitted to hospital with malnutrition.
