Three of the world’s best restaurants are in London

It’s that time of year again: the World’s Best Restaurants for 2017 have been revealed.

And it’s good news for those of us with more refined taste buds, as no less than three of them are right here in the UK.

Taking the coveted 26th and 27th places were The Clove Club and The Ledbury, respectively, while Dinner by Heston Blumenthal made it in at number 36.

The Clove Club, situated in Shoreditch Town Hall in East London, specialises in “interesting and often overlooked British ingredients and produce”.

Diners can sample said ingredients and produce in the restaurant’s signature five-course menu, or pop into the bar for a drink and snack.

Over at The Ledbury, a two Michelin star restaurant in leafy Notting Hill, visitors can sample the extensive tasting menu or opt for dishes from the lunch and dinner menus, including the iconic flame-grilled mackerel with smoked eel, celtic mustard and shiso.

Finally, described by judges as “a space-age history lesson from Britain’s gastronaut-in-chief”, London-based Dinner by Heston Blumenthal offers a journey through time conveniently served on a dinner plate.

Think chicken cooked with lettuces and served with a spiced celeriac sauce and oyster leaf, or a tipsy cake made with spit-roasted pineapple.

None of the above were able to steal the top spot, however.

The world’s number one restaurant for 2017 is, in fact, New York’s “iconic” Eleven Madison Park, described by the judges as the “perfect sponsored_longform of outstanding hospitality and exquisite food”.

But if that’s a little too far to travel for good grub, fear not: six of the top 10 restaurants are situated in Europe, making them a little more accessible.
