It's not out until September, but the first poster for the new Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones's Baby, has just been released.
The poster's design echoes those of the earlier two films, Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, with Bridget (Renée Zellweger) posing against a stark white background. But rather than being accompanied by her trusty red diary or two dashing men, this time Bridget has just one accessory: her biggest pair of support knickers yet.
Bridget's relationship with granny pants was established in the first film in the series, as she pondered the dating dilemma: to Spanx or not to Spanx? But in the third movie installment, she needs big knickers for a very different reason. She's pregnant.
Now in her forties, Bridget's "happily ever after" with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) has fallen apart. She decides to focus on her friends and career, but runs into a problem when she falls pregnant. She's only 50% sure who the father is: her old faithful Mark, or her dashing new suitor, Jack (Patrick Dempsey)?
Emma Thompson also joins the cast as Bridget's obstetrician. Quite frankly, we can't think of anyone we'd rather coach us through pregnancy than Emma Thompson.
In order to protect the ending, the cast have filmed three possible finales to the movie. Zellweger told the Sunday Express: “It's kind of brilliant. None of the cast knows who fathered Bridget's baby or who she'll choose as her beau. The plan is to keep us all in the dark, right up to the premiere.”
Bridget Jones's Baby is directed by Sharon Maguire and released in UK cinemas on 16 September 2016.
