A seven-year-old boy, whose mother is obsessed with music from the Eighties, has been drawing pictures of her favourite tunes from the decade since he was five.

He has now amassed quite the collection of incredible images that depict humorous and literal translations of the songs. Sam, who comes from Portland, Oregon, began drawing the pictures after hearing his mum's music playing.

“Sam's first favourite song ever at age two or three was Whip It by Devo, which, of course, made me crazy happy”, says his mum Lori Ferraro.

Lori says that it was after school one day that Sam came home and began drawing his interpretations of her favourite songs.

“We started paying attention to the music that's always on in the background and Sam started drawing what he heard. He always asks me the song title and when I tell him he'll usually giggle and shake his head, then he gets down to business.”

Discussing his process, Lori says that “a typical song takes Sam less than five minutes to draw” and that usually by the time the song is over he is done with the drawing.

“There are so many that I love, especially the first few that he did when they were super-literal. Like Footloose where the foot has broken off. I love sitting with him and sharing something I love so much with someone I love so much. ”

From Cyndi Lauper to Michael Jackson, as well as tracks by The Smiths and The Cure, Sam has drawn many popular songs, which you can see below.
