The only tickets to book for December

Published

Since Stylist’s Fair Game campaign launched in April, we’ve had everyone from Victoria Pendleton to Jessica Ennis rooting for the cause. Now tennis’ biggest names have voiced their support ahead of a star-studded gala, the Statoil Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall, a series of events between 5-9 December.

The season finale to the ATP Champions Tour, Statoil Masters brings together tennis greats past and present for a Winter Whites ball (attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) followed by a series of can’t-miss competitions across the week, including a very special Ladies’ Night on 6 December. Fancy seeing Heather Watson and Tim Henman battle it out on the court without the threat of rain ruining play? You’ll need a ticket to one of the most sought-after tickets of party season then (see below for details).

Before the Statoil Masters officially kick off, we asked the stars of the weekend what they thought about equality in sport.

Heather Watson “There are so many amazing female athletes who don’t get the recognition they deserve. But I have high hopes my generation will increase the female presence in athletics around the world. The Olympics showcased how strong and determined we can be.”

John McEnroe “There’s probably no other sport than tennis where a woman can earn as much as a man, and that’s wrong. It shouldn’t make any difference to society or the media whether you are a man or a woman.”

Mark Philippoussis “Women approach the game the same way as us and train the same. They’re not just tennis, but sports superstars, and there’s no way they deserve any less attention than men.”

Ivan Lendl “My mother was a ranked tennis player in Czechoslovakia and my daughters play golf in the US. It’s simple. More coverage will provide more and better opportunity.”

Tim Henman “Wimbledon in particular has always been at the forefront of the equal prize money movement. As a father of three daughters, I’m proud of that.”
