It’s not every day Stylist gets invited to be a judge at the prestigious International Cheese Awards.
But on Tuesday 26 July, our resident food expert Amy Grier (pictured above) threw on her tabard and picked up her cheese iron (like an apple corer but for cheese) to judge three categories (including best Double Gloucester, Best continental and Best Mature Cheddar) at the biggest cheese awards in the world.
Sampling 50 cheese before 11am in a room which was home to over 3,730 different cheese entries (cheese as far as the eye can see), it was the Ford Farms April 2010 Cave Aged Mature Cheddar which was crowned Supreme Champion.
"This is a fabulous example of a great farmhouse cheese but with a Blue Stilton taking second place as well, this is a fantastic endorsement by judges from across the world of the quality of the cheeses now being made in the UK " said Nigel White Secretary of the British Cheese Board.
We couldn’t agree more, but we are also secretly quite glad that we are no longer required to eat 15 Double Gloucesters for breakfast.
