Bermudez, who works at Carlos Fuentes Charter School, has students who “don’t have a bed”.

The man she was chatting to then took her contact details, telling her that his company donates to schools like hers.

Next: “something amazing happened”. The passenger sitting directly behind her tapped her on the shoulder, apologising for listening to her conversation and then handed her a lot of cash.

“He told me to ‘do something amazing’ and sat back down… I thanked him and told him how I would buy my students books and give back to the community. I didn’t count the money from that man, but I would later find out that he gave me $500 (£382).”

And then something even greater happened.

A man across the aisle admitted he’d also been listening in on the conversation, and then handed her $20 (£15). And then the man in front of her turned around and handed her $10 (£8).

“I started crying on the plane. I told all four men that I would do something amazing for the kids.”

The following day Bermudez shared her story on Facebook, and at the time of writing, now has over 12,000 shares and nearly 4,000 comments. Of course, people have been touched by the story, too.

“Why don’t we hear about these stories on the news instead of all the negatives about our society? There ARE good, kind-hearted people out there who want to help and do good things. Thanks for sharing this wonderful true story!,” one user wrote.

“This is the kind of news worth hearing,” another person posted.

And another wrote: “I’m wiping tears at this moment.”

Shall we all try to carry out more random acts of kindness? Absolutely.
