Netflix has released details on the much-anticipated second series of The Crown, the acclaimed drama about the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

While the first series focused on the early years of the Queen’s reign, paying particular attention to her relationships with Prince Philip, Princess Margaret and Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the second season of The Crown will follow an older, more assured Elizabeth II.

It will begin in 1956 with the Suez Crisis in Egypt, and end with the scandalous resignation of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1963. The show will also see the birth of the Queen and Prince Philip’s third child, Prince Andrew.

According to Netflix, “the second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the Sixties” – which obviously sounds amazing.

Clare Foy and Matt Smith will return as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, with Vanessa Kirby reprising her role as the rebellious Princess Margaret.
