The Last Letter From Your Lover is one of Jojo Moyes’ most beloved books, the story of a journalist who discovers a cache of secret letters between a star-crossed couple in the 60s. Now, the book will be adapted into a film starring Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley and Joe Alwyn.

More than three million copies of Jojo Moyes’ bestseller The Last Letter From Your Lover have been sold since it was first released back in 2010.

Which, by our count, means that at least three million people will be excited to learn that the book is being adapted into a film with an epic cast and a female director. The Last Letter From Your Lover is about to start filming Mallorca and will star Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, Joe Alwyn (Mr Taylor Swift himself), Callum Turner from The Capture and Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa. Augustine Frizzell, who recently worked on episodes of the HBO series Euphoria, will be directing.

What is The Last Letter From Your Lover about?

The Last Letter From Your Lover is two stories wrapped together. One is the tale of Jennifer (Woodley), a woman in 1960 who wakes up from a car accident with no memory of her life. When she returns to her home she discovers a secret letter from a man who isn’t her husband begging her to run away with him. Slowly, she begins to uncover the other half of her life.

The second strand of the timeline takes place in contemporary London, where journalist Ellie (Jones) finds a cache of hidden love letters between Jennifer and her lover. Ellie finds herself drawn into the story, unable to rest until she learns whether or not Jennifer got her happy ending.

Who is in the cast of The Last Letter From Your Lover

Felicity Jones.

Jones and Woodley are leading the cast as Ellie and Jennifer respectively, the two women whose love stories drive the film. Both actors are also executive producing the project.

Joining them in the movie is an epic cast, including Joe Alwyn, Callum Turner, Ncuti Gatwa and Nabhaan Rizwan from Informer

Who is the director of The Last Letter From Your Lover?

Augustine Frizzell will direct the movie. Frizzell comes fresh from the set of Euphoria, the HBO television series starring Zendaya, for which she directed the pilot episosde. Frizzell has also directed episodes of Sweetbitter, the adaptation of Stephanie Danler’s coming-of-age novel of the same name and Never Goin’ Back, the cult favourite best friend comedy starring Maia Mitchell and Camilla Morrone. 

What is the release date of The Last Letter From Your Lover?

Production on the film begins on 14 October. A release date is yet to be announced.
