The three new acronyms that will sum up your social life in 2016

In case you hadn't heard, FOMO (or Fear Of Missing Out), is so last year.

The acronym started doing the rounds in 2011 and perfectly encapsulated a feeling we were all familiar with: the niggling worry that if we didn't get our tired, work-weary, hungover, sorry behinds over to the other side of London to attend a party we didn't even want to go to, we would Miss Out. Big Time.

The feeling was accelerated by the incoming social media posts that would taunt us from our warm and cosy beds and make us wish we hadn't stayed in after all.

But never fear: as we all retreat inside for the miserable month of January, FOMO is being replaced by three much more sensible acronyms to describe our social lives, as The Guardian alerted us to.

MOMO: The Mystery Of Missing Out

Kate Moss gave us all a hint of MOMO when she imposed a social media ban on her birthday celebrations last weekend (sob). Without so much as a drunk Instagram from Marc Jacobs we were left in the dark as to the who, what and where of the party, similar to when couples force wedding guests to hand in their mobile phones or people go offline during an event to actually experience the experience. What you don't know won't hurt you.

JOMO: The Joy Of Missing Out

That feeling when you claw your way to the opposite end of the FOMO emotional spectrum and let yourself revel in the pure pleasure of being inside, alone and make-up free. The new way to do a Friday night.

FOJI: The Fear Of Joining In

For those who refuse to Instagram a party or wait to eat while they artfully arrange their food, the FOJI kicks in when you don't want to post about your social life because you're scared people won't like your pictures or follow you back. We've all been there.
