Too many tweets make a tw… well so said the PM in 2009. But how wrong he was. (And how soon after he, himself, joined Twitter).
Since it was founded nearly a decade ago (we couldn’t believe it, either), Twitter has gone from strength to strength. Now boasting a phenomenal 320 million users, it has become an invaluable journalistic tool, a space for people to express their opinions and an outlet for creativity.
Today, Twitter have released their annual statistics, which reveal the most monumental moments of the year – from #JeSuisParis to #BlackLivesMatter - the biggest trends across a range of topics. and the most influential newcomers to the social network.
Katy Perry took the top spot of most followers, with a whopping 7.8 million, and Harry Styles made it to number one in the UK, with Adele coming a close second.
But, since followers are not necessarily always the best sign of how big an influencer someone is (since, admit it, we all hate follow a handful of people), Stylist.co.uk commissioned Twitter to reveal the most retweeted women of the year which, we think, is the real sign of popularity.
Behold, the top 15 of 2015…
