An Indian design company has created a teeny-tiny “nano house” which, at a cost of just £197 per unit, could eradicate slum housing.

The world’s smallest sustainable home consists of bamboo walls, fibre roofing and a mud floor – all of which can be locally sourced anywhere in the world – and sleeps four. Mohan Raghavan, a designer at Mahindra, the company behind the nano house, believes that, although the house is just 23.6 sq ft, it is comfortable and addresses all human needs.

Also, the monsoonproof structure – equipped with solar lamps and water purifiers – takes just four days to construct. “The house is designed for rural and homeless families in developing countries like India and Africa, where a large number of population can’t afford cheap and effective housing,” he said.
