London is officially the drinking capital of the world, judging by results from The World’s 50 Best Bars released today.

London dominated the annual competition with a total of nine bars named best in the world, including the bar crowned number one - The Langham's Artesian.

The city beat rivals such as New York, which only had eight wins in total.

Artesian, which is located off Regent's Street, has won the title of best bar for fours years running now, due to its offering of innovative cocktails that are built to excite all your senses, from the way it looks, smells, feels, tastes and sometimes even sounds.

Head mixologist Alex Kratena uses wildly exotic ingredients, borrows cooking techniques from the top kitchens in the world and has vessels (they're not just glasses) custom-made.

Customers have been caught trying to steal the bar’s Lego elephant glass holders which are a part of Artesian's famed Dali-inspired 'Unfolding and Exploring' menu.

This year Artesian was also saluted for its quality of service.

“No matter who you are, or what you’re trying to squeeze into your handbag, you are made to feel special at Artesian,” said the judges.

“Amid the 5-star luxury of the Langham Hotel, just off Regent Street, Artesian could have easily been a parlour of insipid comfort, where moneyed types gather to drink pricey drinks and talk down to those serving them. It is not. Indeed, as the world’s best bar, it is now a place of pilgrimage – not just for the trade but for travellers of all ilk.”

The bars are judged by a panel made up of 412 bartenders, mixologists, journalists who specialise in drink and other industry personalities from around the world to reflect a global opinion. Each judge is asked to name five bars in order of preference which allows organisers to calculate which bars came highest.

The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog in New York and Nightjar in London came in at second and third place, respectively. Take a look at the remaining top ten below.
