From a slab of cheese to a unicorn head, the new emoji language coming to your phone soon

Published

We’ve been waiting for a cheese emoji for what seems like forever but it’s finally here... well, nearly.

A lovely slab of fromage is among 37 new symbols set to be released as a brand new emoji alongside a taco, a unicorn head and a champagne bottle with a popping cork.

The changes are drawn from a list of most-requested suggestions and come after Apple updated its people emojis to include six different skin tones in April.

Quite frankly all of these, but especially the unicorn, should have made it in first time round but at least they are on the way now.

Other additions among the 37 we are very excited about include a croissant and an avocado, someone ROTFL-ing (rolling on the floor laughing), a pregnant woman, a man dancing - and bacon. There are also a few new expressions including a lying face, nausea and eye rolling.

The Unicode Consortium - the organisation in charge of the characters and emojis across all the different operating systems – is giving us the new additions.

Emojis are officially the fastest growing language in the UK and in history based on the incredible adoption rate and speed of evolution.
