This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford has revealed she had to “insist” on being paid equally to her co-presenter (and husband) Eamonn Homes.

Not only are Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes equal partners in marriage, but they’re also equal presenters on the small screen. So you could be mistaken for thinking that they’re also equal in the salaries they bring home from their work on This Morning together.

But, Langsford has now revealed that she had to “insist” on being paid equally to her co-presenter and husband, Eamonn Holmes.

“I insist now on being paid the same. I insist now that I do,” Langsford told The Sun.

The duo have appeared on screen together on ITV’s This Morning on Fridays since 2006, as well as other TV shows too. Since the pair are married Langsford has always known Holmes’ salary and has learned to negotiate the same wage as him. But, she explains that it’s more difficult when you’re unaware of how much your male colleagues earn.

“But as we all know, in the past I’ve worked not just with Eamonn. The thing is you don’t normally discuss your pay when you’re a co-presenter, but obviously I do with my husband because he’s my husband.

“I basically wouldn’t work for them if they weren’t paying me the same if I’m doing the same job, whether I’m with my husband or any other male co-presenter.”

After the BBC released the salaries of its top earning stars last year the TV industry (and other industries) have come under scrutiny for pay disparity across the UK.

Last year, Phillip Schofield insisted that co-presenter Holly Willoughby was earning the same salary for their work on This Morning, as the pair appear daily on the morning show.

“Absolutely yeah of course, we’re getting paid the same now,” told the Daily Express. “But you have to remember that when Holly started on This Morning I’d been doing it for years and was always sort of the one that had to pull it all through.

“But you know, once Holly was an equal presenter, then absolutely and across the board [there should be equal pay], that is the way it should be for sure.”

And the fight continues…
