The restaurant gods are smiling upon us: the October diary is already packed with new and exciting restaurants to tantalise the taste buds right across the UK.

We've teamed up with Hot Dinners, the source of all London restaurant news from the latest openings to chef gossip, to bring you insider information about the upcoming openings for each month - in London and around the country.

Cielo Coffee, Leeds

Unit 2, 7 Duncan Street, Leeds LS1 6DQ
Opening date: October 5
What’s the story? One of Leeds’ most popular roasteries, it was only a matter of time before Cielo moved to join the coffee elite that hangs around Leeds City Centre. The new store will provide a breath of air and somewhere to eat some less generic lunch on busy Briggate – and the company’s attitude to social enterprising should prove a great example to the rest of the town.

Opening date: October 14
What’s the story? It’s another supperclub success story – Damon Bui has built up a reputation for his delicious Vietnamese cooking over the past three years and is now opening his first restaurant, whose name means Auntie Number Three and is a fond throwback to his family. The food will be the sort of moreish Vietnamese BBQ that has people queueing round the block at street food festivals.

The Bowler

Opening date: October 7
What’s the story? Russell Norman is a man famous for balls. Meatballs to be specific (before you accuse us for going all GBBO on the innuendos) and following the success of the meatball-heavy Polpo, he is teaming up with meatball street van The Bowler to bring meatballs to Covent Garden, all day, every day.

Edinburgh Restaurant Festival

Edinburgh Restaurant Festival

Opening date: 8-18 October
What’s the story? It’s not just London with enough restaurateurs to fill a festival – Edinburgh’s festival is going strong and this year features ten days of special set menus and events to encourage both residents and visitors to try the haute cuisine available in the city. It all culminates with a street food event in St Andrew’s Square on the 16-18 October.

Beardy man from Shotgun


26 Kingly Street, London W1B 5QD
Opening date: Mid-October
What’s the story? Shotgun has a Southern US barbeque theme – which you might have been able to guess from its name. From the people behind the Lockhart in Marylebone, (including a legitimate man from the South, Brad MacDonald, above) thankfully you can also be reassured that it isn’t just another hanger-on to the new trend in barbeque cooking. And the cocktail menu doesn’t look bad either.

Les 110

Les 110 de Taillevant

16 Cavendish Square, Marylebone, London W1G 9DD
Opening date: 21 October
What’s the story? Taillevant is one of Paris’ most iconic restaurants, and Londoners will be delighted to sample its menu which has been replicated almost word-for-word, with drink pairings for everything from wine at dinner to hot drinks at breakfast. It will also look spectacular, thanks to interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, who is responsible for the Savoy’s new look.

Birmingham's latest restaurant space

Grand Central, 68A East Mews, Birmingham B2 4XJ
Opening date: Open now
What’s the story? Birmingham’s multi-million pound transformation of the area around New Street Station is complete, and this has meant a wealth of new restaurants have popped up. While the London scene may know a lot of the names already, the centre will bring a whole new generation of chefs to the city – and we’re already excited to hear what they’ll be doing.

Opening date: 28 October
What’s the story? You might have heard of Gymkhana – the Michelin starred Indian in Mayfair, but you may not have been, thanks to its popularity having it booked out round the clock. The people behind it are thinking of us however, and have opened up Hoppers. Why Hoppers? The star dish are the Aappam – mispronounced as Hoppers – a bowl shaped pancake with various fillings. Let us in.

New branches of old favourites

If you’ve never made it down to Meatliquor or Dishoom because of the notorious queues, it might be the time to try again, as a new branch of the infamous burger restaurant is finally going to open its doors in Islington, and Dishoom has a huge (yes HUGE) expansion into Kingly Street in Soho, opening on October 15. Get your most comfortable shoes on.

And, although the We Want Plates campaign might not be happy, the ever-popular Cocktail Trading Company is opening a new branch. Famous for its quirky cocktails served in everything from a camping mug to a boot, the Smithfield branch will be a hit with the after-work crowd, and anyone who can’t fit into the Oxford Circus branch.

Paul A Young chocolate afternoon tea


Master chocolatier Paul A Young has created a special afternoon tea at Harvey Nichols across the country to celebrate National Chocolate Week. But just to prove this isn’t a gimmick, the tea is available for the whole of October, in line with Harvey Nichols Art of Scent month. Click here to book.

And if you’re missing the street food markets that dominated Instagram this summer, you’ll be pleased to hear Night Tales in Dalston is opening up a bar. Aiming to recreate the atmosphere of Night Tales, NT’s bar will open on October 15.
