Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be in our hands.

Who could resist the lure of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Its story of a young woman learning how to live after 15 years imprisoned by a doomsday cult could have been depressing. Instead, with its sunny optimism, loveable characters and dazzling colour palette, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was a bright spot in a dreary world.

It was both popular with viewers and critically acclaimed, with star Ellie Kemper, who played the title character, and co-creator Tina Fey among those who garnered praise for their work.

Like all good things, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt came to an end, after four seasons on Netflix.

But don’t worry – the show will be back for one last hurrah next year, Netflix has confirmed, and with something a little different.

Netflix will air an interactive special of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, similar to its Black Mirror: Bandersnatch episode (although we suspect Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be a lot cheerier).

Jane Krakowski, Elli Kemper, Tituss Burgess and Carol Kane will return for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's interactive episode.

Speaking about the plans at a For Your Consideration Emmy panel, Fey said: “Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”

Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Carol are all confirmed for the special, which will hit Netflix next year.
