There has been a government clamp-down on tax avoidance by prostitutes in Bonn.

The former capital of West Germany has introduced a kerb side, parking meter-style machine to collect tax contributions from the 200 prostitutes working the streets of Bonn. The machine was installed in the industrial area’s red light district and charges prostitutes €6.10 (£5.30) per evening between 8.15pm and 6am, regardless of how many clients they procure. Prostitutes who don’t buy a ticket will be warned and fined. City spokesman Isabelle Klotz told AFP, “We expect to get €200,000 [£172,000] per year this way.”
