A rabbit the size of a dog is in need of a home after his owner could no longer care for him. The aptly-named Atlas, a continental giant rabbit, is currently being cared for by the Scottish SPCA, who are appealing for new owners to come forward.

But your average family hutch is not going to work, especially as continental giant rabbits can grow up to 1.2 metres and weigh over 20kg.

"Atlas is already about the size of a westie and is still young with some growing to do," said centre manager Anna O'Donnell.

Despite his size, it seems the bunny is a gentle giant. "He is a very friendly rabbit who loves attention and getting cuddles,” Anna added. "Atlas is also an inquisitive boy who makes everyone laugh with his mischievous character."

"We are looking for a specific home for Atlas due to his breed and size.”

"A standard rabbit hutch won't do so his new owner will need plenty of space for him.”

"Atlas needs an owner with the knowledge to properly care for him, so ideally someone who has kept a continental giant before.” Continental giant rabbits eat a bale of hay a week and 2,000 carrots and 700 apples a year.
