Watch the new Paddington trailer: the adventures of London's most famous bear

Published

Anyone who's ever read the immortal lines, "Please look after this bear. Thank you" will relish this new trailer.

Yep, our beloved Paddington bear is set to hit the big screen this year and a first glimpse of the trailer suggests he hasn't succumbed to the glamour of Hollywood in any way.

In the books written by Michael Bond and beautifully illustrated by Peggy Fortnum, Paddington is a well-mannered bear who arrives from darkest Peru with a battered hat, suitcase, duffle coat and a gigantic appetite for marmalade sandwiches. He tries his level best "to get things right" - but alas, he's always getting into trouble.

And if the trailer's anything to go by, he's as hapless and accident-prone as ever in animated form, digging his ears out with a couple of toothbrushes and even falling down the lavatory at one point.

However the film, set in present day, has taken a few artistic liberties - at one point we see Paddington swagger through the tube with a chihuahua in tow, a la Paris Hilton.

We're pretty sure that didn't happen in Paddington bear's original 1958 adventure, when the very first book was released...

Paddington is produced by The Weinstein Company and stars Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins and Downton's Hugh Bonneville.

In fact, one of the first teaser scenes shows Bonneville as Mr. Brown trying to update his insurance policy to cover bears, as his unexpected house guest descends on 32 Windsor Gardens.

Colin Firth has the best job of all - the voice of Paddington himself.
