Cindy (Michelle Williams) and Dean (Ryan Gosling) seem to have the dream relationship. A young, attractive couple, their meet-cute sounds like fate: continuously bumping into each other by chance and quickly setting out on a string of quirky dates. It’s not long before they fall deeply in love with each other.

But this nonlinear depiction of their relationship slowly shows the cracks that sit beneath their marriage. Flipping backwards and forwards in time we learn the insidious issues that riddle what they have built together, underpinned by the issues they have with themselves. Upon release in 2010 the film received critical acclaim and Gosling was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor.
