With this in mind, does the backlash make Blakeley reconsider the opinions she shares? “It doesn’t figure in my thinking,” she says. “This is mostly because, a lot of the time, the abuse is completely random. You can say the same thing a year apart and one time it’ll get picked up by Laurence Fox or Ben Shapiro and you’ll get death threats, the next time it won’t, and you’ll get nothing. It’s very hard to tell what’s going to piss people off, so there’s no point mediating what you’re going to say. I just say what I believe.”

Research conducted by Amnesty International has shown that women in politics are 27 times more likely to face abuse online than their male counterparts – and real-world accounts tally with the stats. Just look at the experience of Ava Evans, the Joe Media journalist who was aggressively trolled by Laurence Fox live on GB News last December.

It’s easy to see why being a young, female journalist in politics might not seem particularly appealing right now given the online abuse so many are facing. When I ask Blakeley what she thinks about this, her response is grimly candid. “I’d like to say that it should be easier, but most young women working in political media represent a threat to the established way of doing things because they tend to be progressive, so I’m not very optimistic about things changing. Instead, we’ve got to be tougher (even though I don’t like saying it). Reclaiming femininity that is strong, raging against injustice and being able to draw on the strength of women that have come before us is imperative if you’re going to throw yourself into the lion’s den.”
