Improve the systems for survivors of domestic abuse. This encompasses aspects such as reforming the criminal justice system and family courts and offering better access to healthcare and welfare support systems.
Invest in specialist domestic abuse services. Refuge is calling on the next government to invest in holistic and specialist support in the short and long term. The organisation says this will require £238 million funding a year for essential community-based services and £189 million a year for refuge services.
Make the country safer for women and girls. This involves tackling violence women and girls face online but also in settings like schools and on the streets. The organisation also points to how political parties must respond to “increased reports of abuse perpetrated by those in the police”.
