Laskey agrees that more needs to be done to close loopholes, such as the difficulties around getting images removed from certain platforms. Currently, while the sharing of intimate content is illegal, the actual image itself isn’t – and can remain on the internet indefinitely. Even in Harrison’s case, and despite Bear’s conviction, content of her is still out there, and it isn’t technically illegal.

In the meantime, the helpline has developed its own solution: the Stop NCII tool. It encourages users to upload their intimate images and videos and works by generating a digital fingerprint or ‘hash’ for each one. No images are ever shared, uploaded or leave the user’s device, but Stop NCII then shares the hash with participating companies so they can help detect and remove the images from being shared online. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, PornHub, Reddit and Bumble are among those participating in the scheme at the moment. So far, the Revenge Porn Helpline has successfully removed over 300,000 individual non-consensual intimate images from the internet – an impressive 90% removal rate.

And while there’s still a long way to go until justice for all victims is reached, Laskey remains optimistic. “More than anything we want people to know that they’re not alone. There is support out there for them if and when they need it.”
