“As a curve model, I’m passionate about understanding how harmful comparison culture can be. For years I wanted bigger breasts, and now I had them, I still felt unhappy. I realised that was because I was comparing them yet again to images we see in the media. Perfect, perky boobs that don’t look or feel heavy. Why is it so hard for the industry to just show boobs as they are?

“I feel like even as young girls we are conditioned to hide our chests. Remember in PE when everyone would turn to the wall when putting on a crop top or bra because you wouldn’t want anyone else to look? That self-censorship is starting early because we’re scared about how our boobs might differ from everyone else’s. And this idea of hiding rather than celebrating will never lead to a positive relationship with your boobs or any other part of your body.

“I wouldn’t even get fitted for bra when I was at my thinnest because I thought bra fittings were for girls with freakishly big boobs. Which, looking back, sounds ridiculous.

“Now I appreciate how important it is to have a well-fitting bra, especially as I have to be sensitive to my scar and the kinds of underwear that might irritate it – that’s why I go for my bra fits at M&S. Underwires can be a bit too aggressive for my scar, so it’s great that a bra fitter can suggest all kinds of different styles while still keeping this in mind. For me, a bra fitting is an act of self-love, and I feel more confident when wearing a bra that actually fits me properly.”
