A-list affairs in the workplace

Published

A recent study of 2000 office workers found two thirds admitted to having an intimate relationship in the workplace. Those aged between 35 and 44 years old were most likely to indulge in a fling, with 29% becoming romantically involved with a colleague at some point. And it's not a pursuit reserved just for mere nine to fivers - with the boundary between professional and personal becoming ever more blurry, we look at famous examples of affairs in the workplace, from Jude Law and his nanny to Bill Clinton and a certain fresh-faced intern.

  • Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie

Sparks flew between these two in their now infamous encounter on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith (pictured) in 2004. Six months later, Brad and Jennifer Aniston filed for divorce, with Angelina framed in the role of marriage-wrecker. The couple have always insisted they only started dating after the split, but Ange's remark that "not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love" is seen as a tacit admission of on-set chemistry.

  • David Beckham & Rebecca Loos

The News of the World ran a kiss and tell with the Beckhams' PA Rebecca Loos in April 2004, claiming she had sex with David Beckham on a number of occasions and exchanged steamy "sex texts" with the football star. "I think the chemistry between David and I was so strong and people were not happy because I was being very unprofessional and he's a married man," Loos said. David branded the story "ludicrous" and has never publically admitted the affair.

  • Meg Ryan & Russell Crowe

Meg had an affair with Russell while they were filming Proof of Life in 2001. The fling ended her 10-year marriage to fellow actor Dennis Quaid, who was also unfaithful according to Meg. "Russell wasn't a homewrecker," the movie star said in a 2006 interview. "I did not leave my marriage for him. I left because it was not working."

  • Jude Law & Daisy Wright

Jude Law publically apologised to his then-fiancée, Sienna Miller, after his fling with the family nanny Daisy Wright was exposed in 2005. "I am deeply ashamed and upset that I've hurt Sienna and the people most close to us. There is no defence for my actions, which I deeply regret," he said.

  • Bill Clinton & Monica Lewinsky

In a scandal that threatened to destroy a presidency, Bill Clinton famously cavorted with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, aged 21 at the time. Bill made matters worse for himself by first denying the affair (leading to a failed attempt to impeach him) before finally coming clean. "I made a bad mistake and it was indefensible and I'm sorry," he said.

  • Abbie Cornish & Ryan Phillipe

Abbie Cornish and Ryan Phillipe's chemistry on the set of Stop-Loss (pictured) is widely believed to have contributed to the demise of his marriage to Reese Witherspoon in 2006. Though Ryan has always insisted there were problems in his relationship before he met Abbie, he stopped short of refuting affair rumours. "I'm not a perfect person, but I'm not guilty of a lot of the things I have been accused of," he said.

  • Sven Goran Eriksson & Faria Alam

England football coach Sven had an affair with Football Association secretary Faria in 2004, when he was dating Nancy Dell'Olio. It was the second time he cheated on her - the first being with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson. "The truth was he'd been with this person, but again having sex and nothing else. And he was definitely very desperate," Nancy later said.

  • Ethan Hawke & Ryan Shawhughes

Ryan was working as a nanny for Ethan and his wife Uma Thurman's children when their affair began. Uma and Ethan split in 2004 and he later married Ryan. The pair now have two children of their own.

  • Kelly Brook & Billy Zane

Kelly met Billy on the set of horror flick Survival Island (pictured) in 2004. The actress was in a seven-year relationship with actor Jason Statham at the time, and left him for Billy.

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger & Mildred Baena

Arnie's affair with his housekeeper Mildred was exposed in sensational style earlier this year, when it emerged she gave birth to his secret love child in 1997 - just days after his youngest child with wife Maria Shriver was born. News of the fling ended their 25-year marriage.

  • Natasha Kaplinsky & Brendan Cole

News anchor Natasha Kaplinsky was partnered with Brendon Cole in reality series Strictly Come Dancing in 2005. Their fiery on-screen chemistry coincided with Natasha splitting from her fiance Michael Barnard and Brendon ending his nine-year relationship with fellow Strictly dancer Camilla Dallerup. However, Natasha denied having an affair saying, "I might be a lot of things, but I'm certainly not a man-eater."

  • John Major & Edwina Currie

Former British prime minister John Major had a four-year affair with his Conservative party colleague Edwina. The relationship, which began in 1984, was only revealed years afterwards in 2002. "It is the one event in my life of which I am most ashamed and I have long feared would be made public," he said. His wife, Norma, forgave him.

  • John Prescott & Tracey Temple

John Prescott had a two-year affair with his secretary Tracey when he was deputy prime minister of the Labour party. ''I did have a relationship with (Temple) which I regret. It ended some time ago. I have discussed this fully with my wife Pauline who is devastated by the news," he later said.

  • Joe Piscopo & Kimberly Driscoll

  • Robin Williams & Marsha Garces Williams

These two met when Marsha was working as a nanny for Robin and his wife of 10 years, Valerie Velardi. Robin left Valerie for Marsha in 1998 and the two were married for 19 years with two children before divorcing in 2008.

  • Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott

Tori and Dean were both married when they met on the set of 2006 TV movie Mind Over Murder. They quickly went about the process of divorcing their respective partners and are now married with three children. Tori says she has no regrets about the affair. "We didn't want anyone to get hurt, but ... I'd found my soul mate. How could I deny that?" she said.

  • David Letterman & female staff

America's most famous TV host confessed to playing around with a string of female staffers after falling victim to an extraordinary extortion plot. David, who married long-term partner Regina Lasko just seven months before the 2009 on-air admission, told his audience: "I have had sex with women who work for me on this show." A CBS producer later served jail time for attempting to blackmail David over the affairs.

  • Tiki Barber & Traci Lynn Johnson

Former NFL star Tiki Barber is said to have had a two-year affair with former NBC intern Tiki Barber when he was working as a correspondent for the network's Today show. He left his wife of eleven years - who was pregnant at the time - for Tiki, but later insisted the pair were just friends initially. "I was separated, out of my house so it wasn't until then that we took things to the next level," he said.
