What Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has achieved in politics this past year is worth celebrating.

The 29-year-old has become the youngest ever female representative in the history of American politics, a rallying point for politically-charged youth and the new face of the Democratic party. Her policies are being debated, her influence is being felt and her voice is being heard. She’s making waves.

So don’t tell her that she doesn’t deserve to be in politics.

A man tried to do just that, making what he has called a “snarky dig” at the congresswoman after Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that billionaire Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks and a man currently eyeing a presidential campaign, isn’t subjected to the same kind of sexist commentary that she endured when she ran for congress.

“Why don’t people ever tell billionaires who want to run for President that they need to “work their way up” or that “maybe they should start with city council first”?” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
