And it gives a nod to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Amy Schumer is pregnant with her first child – and she revealed it in a fittingly funny (and political) way.

The comedian posted an image on Instagram that showed her and her husband Chris Fischer’s faces Photoshopped onto the bodies of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their royal tour of Australia.

In the caption, she said she had “some exciting news”, and asked her followers to visit the author and journalist Jessica Yellin’s Instagram feed for more information.

Yellin is a former chief White House correspondent for CNN and the founder of #NewsNotNoise, a campaign in which she tries to break down the world’s biggest political stories for her followers.

On her Instagram Stories, she shared a screenshot of a note written by Schumer, in which the comedian listed her recommendations for who to vote for in America’s upcoming midterm elections.

And buried at the bottom of the list? The revelation: “I’m pregnant – Amy Schumer.”

Schumer has been outspoken about politics in the Trump era, frequently calling on her fellow Americans to vote in the midterm elections, speaking at rallies against the president’s policy of separating families at the Mexican border, and getting arrested at a protest against the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

So while her pregnancy announcement is defiantly original, the tone of its message is perhaps not unexpected.

The comedian first called out Trump back in 2016, before the former Apprentice star was elected president. As a sexual assault survivor, she said the multiple allegations of assault and harassment against Trump had been “real triggering” for her, and described the then-presidential candidate as an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster”.

Schumer also hit back at pregnancy rumours just three months ago, posting a video of herself sipping a cocktail on Instagram. “I am not pregnant. I am not pregnant… But thank you for thinking of my womb,” she said in the clip. (Reminder: it’s only OK to discuss the state of someone’s womb if they invite that conversation themselves.)

After confirming her pregnancy on Monday, Schumer told the Los Angeles Times: “Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he’s the father.

“I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way.”
