In unexpected news from someone with 6 children, Angelina Jolie has revealed that she never wanted to be a mother.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Jolie admitted that: “It’s strange, I never wanted to have a baby. I never wanted to be pregnant. I never babysat. I never thought of myself as a mother.”

But, according to the activist and film star, something changed her mind.

In 2000, when Jolie was filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia, she had an awakening.

“When I first came to Cambodia it changed me. It changed my perspective,” she says.

The actor, 40, who grew up in Los Angeles, said that prior to visiting the country, there was a lot about the world she didn’t know, and that growing up in LA had left her with a “real emptiness,” saying:

“That trip triggered my realisation of how little I knew and the beginning of my search for that knowledge.”

“I was very humbled by it.”

But it was a visit to a Cambodian school that really changed things for Jolie, who says:

“It was suddenly very clear to me that my son was in the country, somewhere.”

Two years later, she adopted her son, Maddox (now 14), and became U.N. Goodwill Ambassador, regularly vising the country on humanitarian missions.

A few years later, Jolie adopted Ethiopian daughter, Zahara, 11, then in 2007 her and Pitt adopted son Pax, 12, from Vietnam, then the pair later had three biological children together: daughter, Shiloh, nine, and twins Vivienne and Knox, seven.

Jolie is now back in Cambodia filming Netflix original, First they Killed my Father, that tells the story of the 1970s Cambodian genocide from a child’s perspective.
