Anne Hathaway gives her new baby a traditional name - with an unusual twist

Anne Hathaway has welcomed her first child with husband Adam Shulman. 

The actress's rep has confirmed that she gave birth to a baby boy in Los Angeles on March 24. Hathaway and Shulman chose a half-traditional, half-unusual name for their son: Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman. 

"The baby is extremely healthy and is surrounded by friends and family in L.A.," a source told E! News. "Anne and Adam are ecstatic to be parents."

In a sweet twist, baby Shulman's unusual middle name is apparently a mixture of surnames from both sides of the family. Hathaway's paternal grandfather's surname was Roseline, while her mother-in-law's maiden name was Banks. 

Hathaway has been open in the past about wanting a family. In a 2013 interview with Vogue, she said: "Oh, my God. I want to be a mother, and I anticipate loving my children quite fiercely. I think about it all the time, though it's a silly thing to think about because the kind of mother I'll be depends on the kind of children I have. I can't wait to meet them."

Hathaway met Shulman, an actor and film producer, through mutual friends. The pair started dating in 2008, and were married in Big Sur, California, in September 2012. They announced her pregnancy in late November 2015.
