Frustrations surrounding the lack of government support for the refugee crisis in Europe came to a head this morning, and award-winning children’s author Patrick Ness has responded in a way that deserves mighty applause.

He set up a fundraising page with Save the Children at around 11.30am, vowing to match donations from his fans and the general public of up to £10,000.

Thanks to an overwhelming response he soon reached that incredible target just two hours later, and as donations continued to pour in The Fault In Our Stars author John Green pledged to match the next £10,000 of donations made to the page.

In what has turned into an amazing show of humanity, fellow authors Derek Landy and Jojo Moyes have also now joined the cause, each agreeing to donate £10,000 each as the page keeps breaking new targets.
