BAFTA Rising Star Award

Published

There is only one award voted for by the public at the BAFTAs and that’s the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. Customers have already voted for a shortlist, dwindled down from eight, which recognises five international actors and actresses who have captured the imagination of the British public. You can now vote for your favourite at orange.co.uk/bafta.

To help you decide which of this year's five nominees gets your vote, we've taken a look back at their careers to date below.

Andrew Garfield

If you’re not familiar with his work, you will be… He’s taken over from Tobey Maguire as Spiderman, which is being filmed now, is in Oscar hopeful The Social Network and will soon be wowing audiences in Never Let Me Go with Keira Knightly and Carey Mulligan.

Gemma Arterton

Gemma is becoming one of Britain’s hottest exports with roles in Quantum of Solace, Tamara Drewe and most recently she has had a stint on the West End in the play The Little Dog Laughed opposite Tamsin Greig (The Green Wing) and Rupert Friend.

Tom Hardy

Tom is the oldest out of the five (34 years old) and has been plugging away since his TV debut in 2001 in Spielberg’s acclaimed Band of Brothers, since then he’s made notable appearances in various films such as Black Hawk Down, Bronson and Star Trek Nemesis. But last year Hardy really captured people’s imagination in Christopher Nolan’s stunning Inception.

Emma Stone

The only transatlantic nominee, she’s known for playing sassy, 'cool' girls in films such as Superbad, Zombieland and Easy A, but next year is set to be Emma’s as she’ll be playing Spiderman’s love interest, Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man prequel with other Orange Wednesdays Rising Star nominee Andrew Garfield.

Aaron Johnson

Despite his young age (21 years old) he’s been acting for years, with appearances in The Illusionist, The Greatest and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. But his rise to fame was highlighted in Sam Taylor Wood’s Nowhere Boy in which he played a young John Lennon.
