It was a night of high passion, unexpected kisses and impromptu tears as the 2015 BAFTA Awards went down in London's Covent Garden. Host Stephen Fry got proceedings underway with a slight blunder (calling Patricia Arquette by her sister Rosanna's name) but was otherwise suave, at one point sharing an enthusiastic embrace with Cuba Gooding Jr, who was presenting at the ceremony.
It was a great night for Boyhood, Richard Linklater's epic family drama, which won best film, best director and best supporting actress for Arquette (who gave a touching speech about the importance of love).
The Theory of Everything, the biopic based on the life of Professor Stephen Hawking, also had a lot to celebrate. It landed the outstanding British film award, as well as best actor for bookie's favourite Eddie Redmayne. Redmayne welled up with emotion as he tributed his BAFTA win to the incredible will of the film's muse Prof. Hawking, who was present at the awards with his family. The physicist received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to present a BAFTA with Felicity Jones.
And the brilliant Julianne Moore scooped the award for best actress for her haunting performance in Still Alice, the story of an academic diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers. She thanked her family - "the five Scottish women who poured love into me" - and especially her mum, for the honour.
Come see who else won what in all the major categories, below, and raise a toast to the finest cinematic talents around:
