British actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter have welcomed their first child, a baby boy, it was confirmed this weekend.
The actor's representative Karon Maskill shared the news with Us Weekly, saying, "Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son."
"We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."
The news comes after Cumberbatch, 38, was named a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the performing arts and charity.
The Sherlock star married theatre director Hunter, 37, in secret on Valentine's Day this year while she was pregnant with their first child.
The private ceremony took place in the 12th century St Peter & St Paul Church, near Brighstone on the Isle of Wight.
At the time, Benedict Cumberbatch, 38, told the BBC that "it was a magical day” and guests included Tom Hiddleston and Martin Freeman, who was best man.
Speaking to People magazine in November 2014, Cumberbatch opened up about his relationship with Hunter, gushing “she's proud of my work, she's proud of me, and she loves me. That’s the bottom line, isn't it? That's one of the reasons it's a good fit. It could be a really difficult thing, but she's just so in command of it.”
The pair met when they appeared together in the 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales.
