Beyoncé breaks silence on that elevator fight in Flawless remix with Nicki Minaj

Published

Beyoncé has finally made reference to that infamous lift fight between her sister Solange and husband Jay Z back in May in the most Beyoncé way possible - with a remix of her hit single Flawless.

One of pop's most marketable talents confronted the "elevator-gate" spat in a special version of the track released on her website this weekend.

Featuring rapper Nicki Minaj, the new edit of Flawless sees Bey sing: "Of course sometimes s*** goes down when there's a billion dollars on an elevator.

"You can say what you want. I’m the s***," she continues.

Later on in the track, Bey flexes her diplomacy skills by paying tribute to the qualities she loves in both her sister and her husband - also father of their two-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy:

"My sister taught me how to speak my mind/my man make me feel so God damn fine."

In the now notorious lift incident at the Standard Hotel in New York back in May, 28-year-old Solange was caught on camera kicking and lashing out at her brother-in-law, as Beyoncé stood by motionless.

All three had been attending the after-party for the 2014 Met Gala Ball when the fight broke out.

With no sound available, the incident sparked frenzied speculation as to why the argument took place with a flurry of rip-off gifs and memes and the hashtag #WhatJayZSaidToSolange trending on Twitter.

Beyoncé and co. remained tight-lipped on the topic, releasing only a sombre statement three days on that read:

"Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.

Addressing rumours of Solange's state of mind that evening, it added: "The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

Bey appears to have been true to her word in putting the incident behind her - up until now.

She and Jay Z, 44, are currently co-headlining the $100 million On The Run tour in venues across the world. The massively publicized road trip will end in Paris in September.

Last year, Beyoncé and Jay Z were named by Forbes as the highest-earning couple in showbiz, bringing in $95 million (£56 million) in earnings between June 2012 and June 2013. The first couple of hip-hop's combined net worth is estimated to stand at $900 million (£530 million).

The track Flawless originally appeared on Mrs. Carter’s Beyonce album last December. The new version has a high energy, trance-y feel with Bey showcasing her powerhouse vocals and Nicki bringing her rapping skills to the fore in the second half of the song.
