He also spoke about how he has got back into songwriting and performing with his band The Boomtown Rats after his daughter's death: "It completely clears your head. I just get on a stage and go mad, but if I dwell on the words sometimes, I struggle through the song because they take on meanings which I never meant when I actually wrote them."

Referring to a song about a socialite who commits suicide, he said "If I really think about those words and usually I’m in the zone of that song, if I really think about it, it’s too bizarre, it’s too telling whether it’s about Paula or now whether it’s about Peaches, and stuff like that."

When Lorraine mentioned the public grief for the Geldof family following Peaches' death, he replied "People seem to think that they're involved with your life. Bizarrely, my life seems incredibly episodic, like a soap opera. I'm not aware I'm in the next scene until it happens, and the response to events that happen always takes me by surprise. But I have the get out that I play with a great band."
