President Donald Trump tried to woo Brooke Shields, the actor has revealed – and he did it by using the most cringe-worthy pick-up line ever.

Speaking to TV host Andy Cohen, on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen yesterday (Tuesday 3 October) the actress – who’s graced many a fashion mag cover, modelled for Calvin Klein and partied with the best of them at Studio 54 – shared the story with the host.

Revealing that the encounter happened shortly after Trump legally separated from his second wife, Marla Maples, Shields told Cohen: “I was on location doing a movie and he called me right after he gotten a divorce.

“And he said, ‘I really think we should date because you’re America’s sweetheart and I’m America’s richest man and the people would love it.”

Thankfully, Shields had the ultimate fail-safe line at her disposal.

“I have a boyfriend, he’s not going to be happy about it,” she told him.

Shields is not the first actor that Trump has hit on – and we doubt she will be the last.

Just last year, Emma Thompson revealed that Trump also tried to woo her back in 1997 – which, according to our mathematical calculations, was around the same time he asked out Shields, as his divorce was announced in 1996 and legally granted in 1999.

Thompson was also newly-divorced at the time, having split from her first husband Kenneth Branagh, and was living on a film set in Hollywood while working on a movie called Primary Colours. (Primary Colours, incidentally, is a political drama based on Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign – and Thompson played the Hillary Clinton role...)

“I was in my trailer, and it was on the Universal lot and I had just been divorced and my decree absolute had just come through, like, the day before, which was no big deal,” she explained.

“So the phone rings in my trailer, which it has never done before,” Thompson continued. “I look at it and it’s, like, weird. It’s like a moose has just entered my trailer.

“Anyway, so I lift up the phone. ‘Hi, it’s Donald Trump here.’”

Thompson, understandably, was a little taken aback. Trump had never called her before; they weren’t friends.

“I said, ‘Really? Can I help you?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I just, you know, I wondered if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They’re really comfortable.’”

“I said, ‘Why are you offering me somewhere to stay in my trailer… What?’” Thompson continued.

“‘Well, you know, I think we would get on very well,’” she recalled Trump saying. “‘Maybe we could have dinner sometime.’

“I didn’t know what to do with myself,” Thompson laughed. “I was absolutely… I was on my own, and I just said, ‘OK, well I’ll get back to you! Thank you so much for ringing.’”

Of course, Thompson never did call him back. However, she did say that she wishes she had taken Trump up on his offer: “Think of the stories!”

And the stories keep on coming...
