Diaz married Madden in 2015 after dating for seven months – but she didn’t go into the relationship looking for a sense of completion, or in pursuit of that much touted ‘happy ever after’.

Instead, she embraced a full and happy life, pursued sizzling sexual fulfilment with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto (she readily admitted that she was “always travelling for c**k”), and worked on becoming her best self.

And, because she wasn’t willing to compromise and say ‘I do’ to someone who made her feel less than her best, she became the poster girl for happy single women everywhere.

“There are many soul mates,” she told Marie Claire. “My soul has a lot of different facets and it needs a lot of different men. Friends, too. Friends can be soul mates.”

Diaz continued: “For some reason, we get into relationships and we expect one man to understand all the parts of us and meet all of those needs. I think that’s where everything fails.”
